Sleeping Experiment

The doctor gave us the okay to let Lea sleep as long as she could during the night. Kate and I were giddy all day to let her, and us, sleep for five straight hours. We assumed because she has been a good sleeper, and in the past would have slept through feedings if we didn't wake her, that she would zonk out for five hours easy. Then every two hours a little voice let us know that she needed feeding. Not impressed with my daughter today. Or maybe I should be very impressed because is already rebelling against mom and dad at age two weeks.

Grampa Evans

Lea has now met all of her grandparents. She met Grampa Evans today. Little Lea has had quiet the busy morning.

Tale of the Tape

Just returned from Lea's two week check up. Aiming for birth weight, and Lea blow right passed. She weighed in at a whooping 6 pounds 9 ounces. 6 ounces past her birth weight. Measured at 20 inches. I knew no daughter of mine would have trouble gaining weight.

She was also very good for the doctor. Not fussy, just a happy camper. She was so good that she does not need to go back until she's two months old.

Belly Button

"I have a belly button." Is what Lea would say, that is if she could talk. Or form a coherent thought other than 'hold me,' 'feed me,' and 'change me.'

Lea's umbilical stump fell off last night somewhere between 1 am and 4 am. I was too tired to remember when it was. Doesn't matter. The important news is that our daughter has a belly button, therefore she's not a clone. Or a robot.

Back to School

Last night our daughter, Lea, was super fun. Remember my last post? No? Just look one post below this one. I'll wait. Done? Okay. Proud papa talking about his daughter figuring out how to wake herself up to eat. Not so cool now. Young Lea decided she was an every 2 hr to 2hr 15 min eater. Good to know she will not let herself go hungry.

In other news, I (Steve) will have to go back to work today. I'm looking forward to getting back to my classroom and seeing the kids. On the other hand, I'm not sure if they'll let me take a nap in the afternoon. I guess I could go hangout in the Pre-K or K room. Those kids get to take naps. I might have to start freebasing caffeine this week. Regardless, I will be fighting the urge to call Kate every hour to check on the little one.

Feeding

Lea is soooooooo smart. For the last 5 feedings she has set her own schedule!!! Waking up every 2 hours and 40 minutes to tell us to feed her. Can you believe this? I'm already assuming she's going to be a 4 point student. Knocking on Stanford's door (Thought I would go with Harvard? Come on, we all know that Harvard just isn't Harvard anymore people.) Just kidding. But seriously, she's the uber baby. (Yes. I said THE uber baby, rather than an uber baby. I'd like to think our baby is in a class of her own. So what if I'm delusional.)

Projectile Poop

Update from the 6am changing. Projectile poop is real, it's scary, and thank God it's not very accurate.

First Real Dinner

In a now mounting number of achievements, Lea slept through Kate and my first real dinner since coming back from the hospital. We enjoyed angel hair pasta with a mix of red and white sauce, and you guessed it Lea slept.

Turns out that Lea is a fan of Italian. She fed for 27 minutes on one side this morning, then passed out. Just like me at every Italian buffet I've been to. One more sign that the hospital gave us the correct baby. I was a little concerned because I forgot to bring a sharpie to mark her after she was born.

Movie Review

Lea slept through her first movie today. She enjoyed Law Abiding Citizen. LAC is an action flick staring Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx. Lea enjoyed the preformances by the actors. She felt that Bulter was strong as the tourtured villian. Lea felt that the director did not create enough sympathy for the protaganst (Foxx), therefore she was forced to cheer for the movies anti-hero (Butler). Not to spoil the ending, but Lea was not impressed with the movies wrap up. She expressed views with serval coos, a few grunts, a couple of wiggles, and loads of Z's.

I (Steve) felt it was worth the $1 rental from Redbox. Mom (Kate) could not be reached for comment as she is currently sleeping.

Doctor Trip #2

Lea had her weight checked today and was up 5 ounces! She's celebrating this victory by being fussy for us this morning.

Bath Time!

We gave Lea her first bath at home this morning. It was interesting. She was great while in the water, but things deteriotated after she was pulled out. Lea used the post bath towel for her makeshift diaper. (Yes the bowls are still in full gear) Then she made her hungary motion, even though she had just finished eating, and had a post bath comfort meal. Suprisingly, she quickly forgave both mom and dad.

First Target Trip

Lea made her first Target trip yesterday after visiting the doctor. She was not pleased at the doctors office, and needless to say she was less than pleased at Target. I assume this will change when she's old enough for Aunt Joy to take her shopping at her favorite place.

2/17/2010

Lea slept well last night. Made it through the night without screaming for long periods of time. She's eatting well, and had an amazing 10 poopy diapers yesterday. Thinking fat thoughts as we get to go back to the doctors tomorrow to do a weight check. She gets a bath today, so I'm sure the screaming will return.

Little Lea was hating Mommy and Daddy last night, but has been an angel today. She's eatting a ton and the right stuff is comming out the other end. She's been sleeping great today, which has allowed us to get caught up on some sleep ourselves. Here's to hoping she continues this pattern into tonight.

OBTW: She has started lifting her middle finger while nursing. Check out my comments on facebook from her first ultrasound pics. I knew she was mine.

Lea Grace Sand 2/12/10

Lea Grace Sand officially joined us at 1:12 pm on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010!!! She's weighing in at 6 lbs 3 oz and 18 inches long. She was nice and easy on momma, as labor only took about 3 1/2 hours from the first contractions to delivery. Both the girls are doing well!

Preparing...

We are officially 37 weeks today, so little Miss Santina is officially full term. We don't have too many pictures of me pregnant, so Steve took a couple of them yesterday just in case she decides to come a little early.
