Pass the Baby
Sunday afternoon Lea was able, although unwittingly, to take part in the 5000 plus year old game of Pass the Baby. Lea was joined in this game by Grandma and Grandpa Evans, and some of her aunts and uncles.
Now the history of Pass the Baby is as old as human civilization itself. I believe archaeologists have uncovered clay tablets dating back to Ancient Sumer containing Cuneiform descriptions of how the game is played. It is unknown if Pass the Baby was played in prehistory, but one can assume that it was.
If you are unfamiliar with how Pass the Baby is played the rules are quite simple.
1. Person A picks up the baby.
2. Person A then holds the baby for a period of time. The amount of time a player gets to hold the baby is determined based on the number of people playing the game. As the number of participates increases, the amount of baby holding time decreases. The formula looks like this: X/Y=Z; X=amount of time before baby screams, Y=number of people participating in pass the baby, Z=amount of time each person gets to hold the baby. E.G. One hour of prescreaming time. Six people playing. Results in 10 minutes of holding time for each player.
3. When the allotted time is up, Person A passes the baby to Person B.
4. If Person A passes the baby before the allotted time is up, then Person A forfeits the extra time. The extra time is added to each of the other participates total time of holding the baby.
5. The game can be called at anytime by the baby if and when the baby becomes fussy.
Results: Lea did an outstanding job in her first real game of pass the baby. She did not enjoy home field advantage (The game was played at Uncle Chris and Aunt Joy's house), and the field of players was quite large (7). Both her mother and I were ecstatic about the results. Pictures will be posted soon.

Scream-at-Dad Fest 2010
Last night Lea and I continued our on going festival known as Scream-at-Dad Fest. The process of celebrating Scream-at-Dad is simple. Lea gets fussy. I (Dad) pick her up. Lea tricks me by settling down for a minute or two. Then Lea commences with her exercises of screaming at dad. Now this is fine at 4 pm. Not so much fun at 11pm.
On a related note. Scream-at-Dad Fest is usually followed up by Silence-with-Mom-a-polluza. I think Kate knows about a secret off button hidden on the child.

Crack the Bottle
Little Miss Lea "Santina" Grace Sand turned one whole month yesterday. In celebration of that mile stone Mom (Kate) decided to place the responsibility of providing her nourishment with the less responsible of the two of us. That's right. Daddy got to feed her.
From what I learned post-feeding on the "Internet" the feeding went rather well. Apparently some babies refuse the bottle because they can smell their mommas nearby. Which makes me wonder why more babies are not employed as drug dogs, but I digress.
Lea willingly took the bottle (Kate was in the next room, leading me to believe that our daughter would never make it in the police K-9 unit) and that's when it got interesting. I think most of the milk ended up in her belly, but she occasionally forgot to swallow. She went from having a milk mustache, to a milk goatee, and then a milk beard which wrapped around the back of her neck. She also was less impressed with me after feeding than she is with Kate after getting the good stuff. Rather than the awesome drunken sailor look, she gave me the angry sailor (probably drunken as well, it's hard to tell) look. So to lessen to emotional scaring we took her to Lowes--which is now her third favorite store behind Target and Hy-Vee.

Lea at the Movies Part 2
Lea was able to enjoy two movies this past weekend. The first of the double header was the fun little campy horromdey, or comedorror, Zombieland. Mom (Kate) and I (Steve or Dad), felt that Lea was mature enough (3 weeks old) to try to sleep through Zombie-themed humor.
To say that Lea was thoroughly entertained the undead would be an understatement. She was so humored by Zombieland that she woke up multiple times to have her diaper changed. The notion of Zombies feasting on the brains of the living led her to request of feeding in the middle of the movie. So in case you're scoring at home on the baby rating scale. Dirty diapers = Good. Politely requesting a feeding = Great. Lea's final rating was Good, Good, Great. Don't judge her, she's only 3 weeks.
Personally, I felt the movie was very funny. No Shaun of the Dead, but really what is?
I'm not sure how Kate felt about the movie. I'm guessing she enjoyed it considering she stayed awake from start to finish.

Ewok Baby
Sooooo I had this nagging feeling since the kid was born that I need to share. I have a strong feeling that my wife gave birth to a hairless ewok. Now I have no way to prove this, but I think the visual evidence will speak for itself.

Maybe I'm crazy, but you have to admit that the evidence is striking.
Ewok Baby (Unknown)
Ewok Baby w/mother (I assume, I have a hard telling ewoks apart)
